DANCE INTENSIVE for Audition Prep

What: A 12 hour intensive preparation for the Magnet School Auditions in Dance.  Program culminates in a Mock Audition with feedback from a panel of judges familiar with the DA and LaVilla procedures.

When: 4 Saturdays from 2:00 - 5:00 Dec 4, 11 and January 8 and 15

FEE: $150 for the entire session

The Intensive Audition Preparation Workshop is designed to give dancers awareness and advanced level audition techniques to build a superior level of comfort, comprehension, and versatility for the upcoming Magnet School of the Arts auditions. This is an opportunity to gain the discipline and work ethic necessary for success within the magnet school program. This immersion into the professional environment allows dancers to "learn the ropes" in preparation for their audition.

Taught by graduates, instructors and past judges of LaVilla and DA, students will progress through our intensive audition workshop and will immediately advance in their present ballet and classical ballet level (barre, center, turns, jumps, pointe and men's work), as well as improve in the contemporary styles and creativity.   The workshop will offer strength building combinations, breaking down the technique, musicality, focusing on memorization, connecting phrases and quality of performance through advanced terminology.  The instructors will work individually with dancers, advising them of helpful at home exercises for strength building as well as other ways to see immediate improvement.

Audition Pointers include things such as:

  • where to stand
  • how to stand
  • how to communicate with the judges
  • communication within the audition
  • attire
  • grooming
  • when to arrive
  • How to "land it".

We are committed to training in an anatomically specific and kinesthetically healthy environment helping the dancer to grow and mature as an artist.
