The Performers Academy provides audition prep for Duval County Magnet Schools
Singing, Dancing and Theatre:Performance courses specifically created for students interested in auditioning for LaVilla and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts
Jacksonville, Florida (Nov 23, 2010) --The Performers Academy will offer classes to prepare students for magnet school auditions throughout December into early January. For students interested in dance, singing and acting this is a great way to combine personal instruction with a mock audition environment before the January 2011 audtions.
Executive Director Kathryn Umberger knows the advantage being familiar with a process can have on performance. “I failed my first driving test because I didn't know what to expect. I knew how to drive a car but the anxiety and the strange driving course caused me to make mistakes. When I repeated the test, and was more comfortable with the process, I passed with flying colors. Sometimes you do not get that second chance so our goal is to ensure applicants will perform their best the first opportunity.”
These prep courses include a several hours of private instruction but aren't expected to fully prepare students without any formal training, especially in dance. Kezia Rolle, Executive Director of the Jacksonville Centre of the Arts, has worked with many Douglas Anderson and LaVilla students through the years and knows what it takes to get in these programs. Many of the instructors at The Performers Academy are graduates, instructors, and judges with DA or LaVilla. “These magnet schools create a culture of the next generation of serious dancers. Jacksonville is fortunate to have such strong magnet programs that combine award winning technical education which leads to global performing experience. I'm proud to be a DA Graduate and watch the tradition continue.”
The entire audition preparation courses for singing, dancing and acting range in price from $120 to $160 per student. Each course includes hours of private instruction and mock auditions by local performing professionals. Classes start as early as December 4th. Interested parents and students are are encouraged to reserve a spot by contacting the Performers Academy at 904-322-7672 or via email at info@theperformersacademy.com
