The process of learning to sing is a journey of both vocal and personal development. The physical nature of learning to sing is tied in with the emotional nature of being human. Each student is an individual and requires a unique application of teaching methods. I've worked diligently to become a professional singer and vocal instructor and I understand in great detail the development of the voice in regards to technique and musicality. This helps my ability to communicate the ideas of singing technique to my students. I can encourage independent thinkers, build confidence, self-esteem and a way of learning that can be applied to any musical style, whether it is classical, pop, rock or theatre. Students will develop learning habits that can carry them through a life time. I will challenge students to evaluate themselves honestly and fairly. To some extent, I have been able to develop my own teaching skills based on my experience as a teacher and as a student. Some forms of teaching made it more interesting while others not so much.
In our competitive society it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. One of my hopes as an instructor is to instill a love of learning paired with confidence and vocal technique that will help them attain the goals they set for themselves. Furthermore, I continue to take every opportunity to keep up to date on the changing trends in the music industry.
